What started as making carpets at home in Meerut is now a rug business exporting to 85 countries! The Rug Republic is one company from Meerut that had humble beginnings but with hard work and dedication, it has become one of the best and most popular rug companies in India.

GROWTH OF SHARDA EXPORTS

Aditya Gupta’s parents, JK Gupta and Meenakshi Gupta started making carpets at their home in Meerut in 1983 by the name Sharda Exports. The business started by selling in the domestic market. A growth opportunity came in the form of an exhibition in Germany in 1991 when they got to showcase their work to a bigger audience. One of the first international clients of the company were Swedish furniture giant IKEA and UK-based household furnishings brand Habitat.

THE POWER OF BRANDING

Even though the company had been there for a long time, 2013 came as a turning point when it was rebranded as The Rug Republic. From catalogues to content creation, The Rug Republic Made sure to evolve with the changing times to connect to their customers better.

Today, The Rug Republic manufactures over five lakh carpets every year and also exports to 85 countries across the globe. The business has an exclusive store in Delhi and more than 10,000 retail touchpoints worldwide.

Creating quality rugs and carpets is the foremost objective of The Rug Republic. The main manufacturing unit is located in Meerut. The company has tied with several units located in the rug belt of Panipat, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The rugs are made of sustainable and other raw material.

Today, The Rug Republic deals in different trendy products like rugs, wall décor, poufs and ottomans, pillows and cushions, stools and benches. These come in materials like wool, cotton, denim, viscose, jute, leather and PET. Weaving types like hand knotted, hand tufted, table tufted, flat weave and circular knitting are available.

FUTURE PLANS

Going forward, Aditya is betting big on the e-commerce business which is being driven by his son, Raghav Gupta. Regarding this, he told a media platform, “Ecommerce will expand our domestic business and is also a healthy push on profitability.”
