The Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will soon be connected with trains as a successful trail run on the 82 km long route has been carried out by The National Capital Regional Transport Corporation last week.

Currently, trains are running on a 55 km stretch and covering 11 stations between New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Meerut South in Meerut. A full length timetable trial run of the Namo Bharat trains was held between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram and the journey took less than 60 minutes. This successful run marks an important milestone in the implementation of India’s first Namo Bharat corridor connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.

The Namo Bharat Train completed the trial run at the maximum operational speed of 160 kmph across the 82 km stretch. According to an official statement, “The trains made stops at every station from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram and covered the entire distance in less than one hour adhering to the planned schedule targeted by NCRTC.”

The Meerut Metro stretch is 23 km long and has 23 stations along the way which include 18 km of elevated and 5 km of underground sections. Along with Namo Bharat trains, Meerut Metro trains also ran simultaneously and smoothly.
