

Meerut continues to make its mark on the national and international sporting stage as promising shooter Chirag Sharma has been selected to represent India at the ISSF Junior World Championship (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) 2026. The prestigious competition will be held in Suhl, Germany, from June 16 to June 26, 2026, bringing together some of the world's best young shooting talents.
Chirag, a standout athlete from the Meerut Shooting Academy located in Nand Vihar on Rohta Road, has secured his place in the Indian contingent thanks to his consistent performances and exceptional accuracy in the 10-meter air pistol category. He is the son of Amardeep Sharma and hails from Kalina village in Meerut district.
According to Abhinav Chauhan, founder of Meerut Shooting Academy and Chirag’s coach, the young shooter has worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone. His key event at the championship is scheduled for June 18, where he will compete against top junior shooters from around the globe.
Coach Chauhan highlighted that Chirag’s journey is the result of years of disciplined training, dedication, and countless hours spent perfecting his technique at the shooting range. He expressed confidence that the Meerut athlete has the potential to bring home a medal and make the country proud on the international stage.
The announcement has sparked celebrations among Chirag’s family, friends, and residents of Kalina village. His selection is being seen as a proud moment not only for Meerut but also for the wider sporting community in Uttar Pradesh.
