Located in the tranquil countryside of Baghpat district near Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Pura Mahadev Mandir is one of North India’s most sacred and spiritually significant temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. As the holy month of Sawan (Shravan) arrives each year, this ancient temple transforms into a vibrant epicenter of faith, attracting lakhs of devotees who come to offer their prayers, perform rituals, and seek divine blessings.
DID YOU KNOW?
Deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, Pura Mahadev is believed to be the very site where Lord Parshuram, the warrior sage and sixth avatar of Vishnu, performed penance to atone for the sin of matricide. Moved by his intense devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before Parshuram here, making this land forever sacred. The temple’s Swayambhu (self-manifested) Shivling is said to be the very one worshipped by Parshuram, adding to its divine significance.
During Sawan, especially on Mondays (Sawan Somvar), the temple becomes a magnet for pilgrims, with thousands of Shiva devotees—many of them kanwariyas—making their way barefoot from distant rivers carrying Ganga jal (holy water) to offer on the Shivling.
In the sacred rhythm of Sawan, Pura Mahadev Mandir becomes more than a temple — it becomes a passage to divine connection. Whether you are seeking forgiveness, healing, strength, or a moment of divine grace, this ancient Shiva temple offers a sanctuary where every chant echoes with faith and every offering touches the divine.
