The upcoming Meerut Metro is all set to make history by becoming the fastest metro service in India, with a maximum operational speed of 120 km/h. Designed to transform daily commuting, the new-age metro will significantly cut travel time across the city and offer a seamless, technology-driven public transport experience.
Fastest Metro Connectivity Across Meerut
The Meerut Metro will operate on a 21-kilometre corridor between Meerut South and Modipuram, featuring 12 strategically located stations. Once operational, the entire stretch will be covered in around 30 minutes, even with stoppages at all stations. This marks a major improvement in urban mobility, easing congestion and making cross-city travel quicker and more reliable.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the Meerut Metro will run on the same tracks and infrastructure as the semi-high-speed Namo Bharat trains. This innovative integrated transport model combines regional rapid transit (RRTS) with city metro services, allowing optimal use of infrastructure while offering passengers smoother intercity and intracity connectivity.
This shared system is expected to become a benchmark for future metro projects across the country.
According to officials, the Meerut Metro will feature modern stainless-steel trainsets with a lightweight, energy-efficient design. The trains will stand out with a distinctive fluorescent green, blue and orange colour scheme, giving the metro a fresh and contemporary identity.
Each fully air-conditioned train will have a capacity of over 700 passengers, including 173 seated commuters. The interiors are thoughtfully designed with a mix of transverse and longitudinal cushioned seating to maximise comfort and standing space.
With its high speed, advanced technology and integrated operations, the Meerut Metro is poised to become a game-changer for urban transport in Western Uttar Pradesh. Beyond faster travel, the project is expected to boost economic activity, improve connectivity and enhance the overall quality of life in Meerut.
