Meerut is set to witness one of its biggest environmental initiatives as the district prepares for a Mega Tree Plantation Drive on July 12, 2026. Under the large-scale afforestation campaign, the administration has set an ambitious target of planting more than 30.83 lakh saplings across the district in a single day.

The campaign is part of Uttar Pradesh's ongoing efforts to increase green cover, improve environmental sustainability, and encourage public participation in protecting nature.

'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' – A Green Tribute to Mothers:

A key highlight of this year's plantation drive is the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (One Tree in Mother's Name) initiative. Citizens are being encouraged to plant a tree in honour of their mothers, symbolising gratitude, care, and responsibility towards both motherhood and the environment.

The district administration has appealed to residents, schools, colleges, government departments, businesses, social organisations, and volunteers to make this campaign a true people's movement by actively participating in the plantation drive.

A Step Towards a Greener Meerut:

The mega plantation campaign aims to improve air quality, enhance biodiversity, combat climate change, and create a healthier environment for future generations. Thousands of plantation sites across urban and rural areas have been identified, with coordinated efforts from various departments and community groups.

Officials believe that public participation will play a crucial role in achieving the target of planting over 30.83 lakh saplings, making this one of the largest plantation drives ever undertaken in the district.

Tree plantation campaigns not only help reduce pollution and increase green cover but also create awareness about environmental conservation. By participating in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, residents can contribute to a cleaner, greener Meerut while paying a meaningful tribute to their mothers.

As Meerut prepares for this massive green mission on July 12, citizens are encouraged to come forward, plant a sapling, and become part of a lasting environmental legacy.
