Meerut is set to witness one of its biggest environmental initiatives as the district prepares for a Mega Tree Plantation Drive on July 12, 2026. Under the large-scale afforestation campaign, the administration has set an ambitious target of planting more than 30.83 lakh saplings across the district in a single day.
The campaign is part of Uttar Pradesh's ongoing efforts to increase green cover, improve environmental sustainability, and encourage public participation in protecting nature.
'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' – A Green Tribute to Mothers:
A key highlight of this year's plantation drive is the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' (One Tree in Mother's Name) initiative. Citizens are being encouraged to plant a tree in honour of their mothers, symbolising gratitude, care, and responsibility towards both motherhood and the environment.
The district administration has appealed to residents, schools, colleges, government departments, businesses, social organisations, and volunteers to make this campaign a true people's movement by actively participating in the plantation drive.
