Being one of the oldest cities of India, Meerut and its surrounding areas are a haven for any history buff or cultural enthusiast. One such gem of historical importance is the Barnvara village located in Bagpat near Meerut.
Barnvara is mentioned as Varanavata and many believe that the place still has evidence of Lakshagraha, the temple made of lacquer which is featured in the Hindu epic of Mahabharata.
Another important site in Banrnvara village is the Jain temple, Chandraprabha Digamber Jain Mandir. A lotus temple similar to the one found in New Delhi is within the Barnvara Jain Temple premises. The main gate of the temple has beautiful intricate designs and is famous for its magnificent carvings.
The Barnvara Jain temple, which is more than 100 years old is dedicated to Chandraprabha, the eighth Tirthankara of Jainism. The idol of Mallinatha, which is said to be 1,300 years old is also present inside the temple.
One step into the Barnvara village and you can feel the mystical aura surrounding the whole place. With lush greenery all around and much to learn about India’s history from the place, Barnvara village is an important site to visit whenever you are in and around Meerut.
