With the Kanwar Yatra gaining momentum, authorities have announced major traffic changes on the Delhi-Meerut road to ensure the safety and smooth passage of Kanwariyas. In light of the rising number of devotees, the road was made one-way from 12 noon on July 14, officials confirmed.
As per the new arrangement, the lane from Meerut to Delhi will be exclusively reserved for Kanwariyas starting July 14. This move aims to ease congestion and prevent any untoward incidents as thousands of saffron-clad devotees walk on foot carrying holy Ganga jal from Haridwar to their hometowns and temples.
Furthermore, from July 17 onward, both lanes of the Delhi-Meerut road will be fully reserved for Kanwariyas. Regular vehicular movement will be completely restricted on this stretch during this period.
Authorities are urging commuters to use alternative routes and cooperate with law enforcement. Additional police forces will be deployed, and diversions will be in place to manage the increased pilgrim traffic effectively.
The Kanwar Yatra, one of the largest annual religious pilgrimages in North India, witnesses millions of devotees participating every year, especially during the holy month of Sawan (Shravan). With the surge in footfall expected to peak around Shivratri, such traffic adjustments are critical to maintaining safety and order.
