With temperatures rising above the roof in Meerut currently, the residents of the city have been reaching out for cold and refreshing drinks more than food. And when we talk about staple drinks in Meerut, the traditional lassi has to be spoke about. Enter, Hariya Lassi, which is also what Prime Minister Narendra Modi drinks!
Yes, you heard that right! Hariya Lassi was started in the year 1965 by Harishchandra Kumar in Lalkurti area in Meerut. Today, the shop has an iconic status in the city and also has new branches in Hapur Adda and Shastri Nagar.
Earlier, the lassi was prepared by artisans with the hand churning method. With changing times, machines have been installed to churn the curd, mawa and sugar which are blended to make the cooling drink. The lassi is served to customers in the quintessential clay kulhad which is so creamy that lassi fanatics enjoy eating it more than drinking.
Over the years, Hariya Lassi has gained an iconic status in Meerut, so much that the lassi was once packed and sent for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to the city. Many celebrities have also relished lassi here.
Want to get the drink packed? The packing system here is so good that you can take it to any place, owing to the ice cubes they put in the foil after which it is packed in kulhad.
