Meerut’s largest underground station at Begumpul, which is named as the Begumpul Namo Bharat Station is all set to benefit daily customers and shoppers soon. With Begumpul being the busiest commercial district in the city, once operational, passengers will be able to travel within Meerut via metro or connect to Ghaziabad and Delhi through Namo Bharat trains.

This will become India’s first Namo Bharat Corridor and the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is working rapidly to wrap up the construction process and open it for public. The tracks for both up and down lines have been laid making the station enter the final phase of its construction.

Once complete, Begumpul will not only be Meerut’s largest underground Namo Bharat Station but also the city’s only underground station offering both Namo Bharat and metro service to the commuters.

Flooring work, marble installations and many other structural enhancements are still underway. The station also has two tracks designed with advanced signaling system to ensure smooth operation of both Namo Bharat semi-high speed trains and the city’s metro service. This system has become one of its kind in India with two different transit systems sharing the same tracks.

The Begumpul station is approximately 246 meters in length and 24.5 meters in width. Although the design is underground, keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, 20 escalators are planned for seamless movement between entry and exit points. 13 of these escalators have been installed already. The elevators have also been made spacious enough to prioritize emergency medical assistance and accommodate stretchers.

Once functional, Begumpul station will provide the convenience of multiple access points to passengers. Once entrance will open up at Abu Lane, another will serve commuters from Soti Ganj, a third will be at the National Inter College and fourth one having access to Meerut Cantonment area.

With the Begumpul Namo Bharat Station, Meerut is all set to experience a smooth transit and become a significant transportation hub.
