Today, you might know him as one of India’s most skilled right-arm fast-medium bowler. But do you know that Indian international cricketer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was born and brought up in Meerut and has spent his childhood in the city?

Yes, you read that right. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was born in Meerut on 5 February, 1990 to Kiran Pal Singh, a police officer. It was his sister who encouraged him to play cricket and took him to his first coaching centre, the Bhamashah Cricket Academy in Meerut when he was 13.

Last month, the cricketer inaugurated BK Cricket Academy at Partapur, Mehrauli and also gave some tips and tricks of the game to some children. He encouraged young minds to pay attention to sports and physical activity along with studies.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar made his international debut in December 2012 against Pakistan, taking three wickets in a 20-20 international, including one in his first over. He is the first Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in test cricket, ODIs and T20Is. He is also the only bowler whose first wicket in all three formats of the game was bowled.

On the personal front, the cricketer got married to Nupur Nagar in 2017 in Meerut and they have a baby girl.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s journey from Meerut, the sports city of India to international cricket has been an inspiration to every youngster in the city. We hope that he keeps making his hometown proud with endless accolades.
