Meerut is about to become the starting point of one of India’s most ambitious highways — the Meerut–Prayagraj Ganga Expressway. Stretching almost 600 km, this ultra-modern, six-lane access-controlled expressway will link western UP’s bustling markets to the cultural and spiritual heart of Prayagraj, cutting travel time dramatically.
The expressway begins at Bijauli village in Meerut district, right near NH‑334, and winds through 12 districts — from Hapur and Bulandshahr in the west to Rae Bareli and Pratapgarh in the east — finally ending at Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj.
Right now, a Meerut–Prayagraj road trip can take 10–12 hours. Once the Ganga Expressway opens, expect the same journey in 6–8 hours.
The Ganga Expressway is a 594 km, six-lane access‑controlled highway, designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h, with future expansion provision for eight lanes. The expressway traverses 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh: Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj, passing through around 518 villages.
Construction is over 80% complete and the expressway is expected to open by the end of 2025. Just in time for easier travel during big events and festivals in eastern UP.
