Meerut and nearby rural regions are set to witness a major infrastructure transformation as the Public Works Department (PWD) has prepared an extensive development plan worth nearly ₹2031 crore. The comprehensive proposal includes around 304 construction projects covering state highways, district roads, bridges, black spot improvements, road safety measures, building construction, and even helipad development across the region.
The ambitious infrastructure push is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Meerut and adjoining districts while enhancing transportation facilities for daily commuters and businesses.
Major Focus on Road Widening & Strengthening:
One of the biggest highlights of the proposal is the widening and strengthening of the crucial Mawana-Kithore-Hapur Road. Stretching across approximately 33.6 kilometres, the project has been estimated at ₹48.72 crore. Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve travel time, and strengthen connectivity between Meerut, Hapur, and nearby towns.
The road serves as an important route for commercial transport and daily commuters travelling through western Uttar Pradesh. Residents and local businesses are hopeful that the upgraded infrastructure will also boost regional economic activity.
Bahsuma-Chandpur-Thakurdwara Road Upgrade Approved:
Another significant development under the proposed plan is the widening and strengthening of the Bahsuma-Chandpur-Thakurdwara Road connecting Mawana to Chandpur tehsil in Bijnor district.
The 5.80-kilometre stretch will reportedly be upgraded at a cost of ₹11.50 crore. The project is expected to improve inter-district connectivity and provide smoother transportation access for nearby villages and towns.
Road Safety & Black Spot Improvements Included:
Apart from road widening projects, the PWD work plan also includes the improvement of accident-prone black spots and implementation of advanced road safety measures. Authorities aim to reduce traffic accidents and improve driving conditions across major routes in the Meerut division.
Bridge construction and government building development projects are also part of the proposal, highlighting the government’s focus on long-term infrastructure expansion in the region.
Helipad Construction Also Part of Development Plan:
Interestingly, the comprehensive proposal also includes plans for helipad construction in select areas. Officials believe these developments could support administrative operations, emergency services, and future regional connectivity initiatives.
If approved in full, the mega infrastructure plan could become one of the largest development pushes for Meerut and surrounding rural regions in recent years.
